Prayer is one of the most powerful and essential practices for every Christian. It is our way of communicating with God, expressing our needs and desires, and aligning our will with His. Prayer also helps us to grow in our faith, overcome challenges, and experience peace and joy.

However, many of us struggle to maintain a consistent and meaningful prayer life. We often get distracted, busy, or bored with our prayers. We may also feel like we don’t know what to say or how to pray effectively.

That’s why we want to share with you the benefits and tips of having a Thursday morning prayers routine. Thursday is a special day in the Christian calendar, as it commemorates the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the betrayal of Jesus.

It is also the day before Good Friday, when we remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Therefore, Thursday is a great day to prepare our hearts and minds for the Easter weekend, and to reflect on the love and sacrifice of Jesus for us.

How to Start and Maintain a Thursday Morning Prayers Routine

Here are some practical steps that you can follow to start and maintain a Thursday morning prayer routine:

  • Choose a time and place that works for you. The best time to pray is when you are alert and focused, and when you can avoid interruptions and distractions. For some people, this may be early in the morning, before the day begins. For others, it may be later in the morning, after they have done some work or chores. The best place to pray is where you feel comfortable and relaxed, and where you can have some privacy and quietness. For some people, this may be their bedroom, their living room, or their balcony. For others, it may be their office, their car, or their garden.
  • Prepare your heart and mind before you pray. Before you start praying, take some time to calm yourself and clear your thoughts. You can do this by taking a few deep breaths, listening to some worship music, or reading some inspirational quotes or scriptures. For example, you can read Psalm 118:24, which says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” This will help you to focus on God and His goodness, and to thank Him for the gift of a new day.
  • Use a prayer guide or template to structure your prayer. Sometimes, we may not know what to pray for or how to pray effectively. That’s why it can be helpful to use a prayer guide or template that can guide us through the different aspects of prayer. One of the most popular and simple prayer guides is the ACTS model, which stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

You can use this model to structure your prayer as follows:

  • Adoration: Praise God for who He is and what He has done. You can use the names and attributes of God, such as “You are holy, faithful, loving, powerful, etc.” You can also use the words of the Psalms, hymns, or songs to worship God.
  • Confession: Confess your sins and shortcomings to God, and ask for His forgiveness and cleansing. You can use the words of 1 John 1:9, which says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” You can also ask God to reveal any hidden or unconfessed sins in your life, and to help you repent and change.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank God for His blessings and provisions in your life. You can use the words of Philippians 4:6, which says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” You can also thank God for specific things, such as your family, friends, health, work, etc.
  • Supplication: Ask God for your needs and desires, and for the needs and desires of others. You can use the words of Matthew 7:7, which says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” You can also pray for specific things, such as your personal growth, your relationships, your ministry, your challenges, etc.

You can also pray for the needs of your family, friends, church, community, nation, and world.

  • Listen to God’s voice and guidance as you pray. Prayer is not a one-way conversation, but a two-way dialogue with God. Therefore, as you pray, you should also listen to what God is saying to you. You can do this by being silent and attentive, and by asking God to speak to you through His Word, His Spirit, or His circumstances. You can also use the words of Psalm 46:10, which says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” You can also ask God questions, such as “What do you want me to do?” “What do you want me to learn?” “What do you want me to change?” etc.
  • Write down your prayer requests and answers. One of the best ways to keep track of your prayers and to see how God is working in your life is to write down your prayer requests and answers. You can use a notebook, a journal, or an app to record your prayers. You can also use a system, such as a prayer calendar, a prayer list, or a prayer box, to organize your prayers. This will help you to remember what you prayed for, to follow up on your prayers, and to thank God for His answers.
